Congrats Martin Brodeur: Winningest Goalie Ever

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/indepth/gfx/250-brodeur-martin.jpg

From TSN.CA

New Jersey goaltender Martin Brodeur won his 552nd career game on Tuesday night and moved past Patrick Roy into first place on the all-time wins list as the Devils beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2.

Brodeur was mobbed by his teammates and received a long standing ovation as the game ended in front of a home crowd at the Prudential Center. He was then handed a pair of scissors and proceeded to cut the netting off the goal he defended in the third period as a souvenir. With the crowd roaring, Brodeur took a victory lap of the ice.

Martin is not only a class act and one hellava netminder, but he took the record away from Patty Waaaaaah. :)

Congrats to Martin and to Devils' Fans everywhere.

The Detroit Red Wings are Boring

Sports Poetry?

They play hockey, they win.
They have room under the salary cap and players aren't screaming to get unreal raises.
Their fans love them. The players get along.
Hall of Famers (Chelios and Hasek) sit on the bench and cheer the other players on.
They give an old washed up drunk (McCarty) another chance and he once again becomes the heart and soul of the team.
Americans, Canadians, Swedes, Fins, Czechs, and Russians all getting along and strive for a common goal.
No Drugs, No (off-ice) Assaults, No Womanizing, No Trash Talking, No Prima Donnas, No NHL Anointed Superstars.
They are a boring team.

Sometimes boring is a great thing!!

RED WINGS ARE GOING BACK TO THE FINALS!!!!!

From AP Sports:

So much for the demise of the Detroit Red Wings. Not only are they headed back to the Stanley Cup finals, they’re again looking like the club that dominated the regular season and most of the playoffs.

After consecutive losses hinted at vulnerability, the Red Wings bounced back strong in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals, getting first-period goals from Kris Draper, Pavel Datsyuk and Dallas Drake on their way to knocking out the Dallas Stars 4-1 on Monday night.

“We were relentless,” Draper said. “It was just a solid first period and obviously the difference in the hockey game. … We’re back in the Stanley Cup and it sounds great for us.”

Detroit led this series 3-0 before running into trouble. Now that the fear of a collapse is gone, the focus turns to winning its fourth championship in 11 seasons. The Red Wings will face the Pittsburgh Penguins starting Saturday at Joe Louis Arena, with the schedule following a Saturday-Monday-Wednesday pattern.

[...]

The Red Wings and Penguins did not meet this season. They did the two previous years and Detroit won both. … This will be the first Detroit-Pittsburgh finals. … It also will be the first all-American finals since 2003, when New Jersey faced Anaheim. … The team that scored first won every game this series. … Detroit is the first Presidents’ Trophy winners to make the finals since its 2002 club did it.

Michelle Malkin Defends Michael Vick to Attack PETA

From Newshounds.us
Michelle Malkin, in for Bill O'Reilly, talked with Daphna Nachminovich, a representative for People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals, about Nike and Reebok's announcement that they are no longer selling products endorsed by Michael Vick. Although the public outcry about Vick's horrific "Bad News Kennels" transcends politics, Malkin chose to side with Michael Vick and attack PETA simply because it's erroneously labeled a left wing organization. Once again, reich-wingers are on the wrong side of yet another issue.

Hardaway Banished for Anti-Gay Remarks

The NBA has banned Tim Hardaway from this weekend's All-Star game festivities in Las Vegas because of anti-gay remarks he made earlier in the week. Hardaway said: "I hate gay people. Let it be known, I don't like gay people."

NBA commissioner, David Stern, explained why, "We acted immediately, we told him he couldn't do anymore work for us because his views don't represent our views."

A transcript to Hardaway's rant can be found here.

Bears WILL Win Super Bowl: Condi Picks Colts

Considering this administration is NEVER right about anything, with Condi picking the Colts to win the big game, it's pretty much a sure bet that Da Bears will win Super Bowl XLI. Place your bets, and bet big. :)

So, will the drug-addict-Limbaugh criticize Condi for siding with the Colts, like the way Oxy-Rush had a hissy fit about Obama voicing his loyalty to Da Bears?

Manning Doesn't Choke!

Peyton Manning, possibly one of the best Quarterbacks in NFL history, has a problem in the playoffs. Constantly rushed, he doesn't take his time and typically chokes during the "big games." He's often compared to former Miami QB Dan Marino, who not only never got his Superbowl, but only appeared in a Superbowl once (early) in his career.

But last night, Manning led the Indianapolis Colts to their first AFC Championship win in 20 years, after being down 21-3 to win 38-34 over the New Englad Patriots (who they were 0-2 against in the playoffs), the biggest come back in conference-title history.

Manning threw for 349 yards, 1 TD, and rushed for 1 TD. By far, it was his best performance in his personal playoff history.

Congratulations to the Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning, who will go on to face the Chicago Bears in Superbowl XLI.

Also, a huge congratulations to coaches Lovey Smith and Tony Dungy - the first African American coaches to coach in the Superbowl!

Greast Playoff Ending Ever?

As a Redskins fan, the ending of last night's playoff game may be one of the greatest ever. Here's to Tony Romo!

Go Blue!!

(8) USC vs. (3) Michigan

This bowl may be the Granddaddy of Them All -- USC is facing Michigan in it for the eighth time -- but both teams would much rather be playing a week later in the BCS title game against Ohio State.

The Trojans (10-2) were in position to do just that after a win over Notre Dame bumped them past Michigan (11-1) for the No. 2 spot in the BCS standings. A stunning 13-9 loss to unranked UCLA the following week, however, closed USC's regular season and ended its hopes of reaching a third straight BCS title game.

[...]

USC has a 21-9 record at the Rose Bowl, including 5-2 against Michigan, despite losing there to Texas in last season's national championship game. The Wolverines are 8-11 in this bowl, including losses in their last two appearances.

"The day will never come in my lifetime where there'll be a disappointment in playing in the great tradition of the Rose Bowl, where every kid in the country will be watching and cheering for somebody," Carr said. "It's been a special team, a special year. We'd like to win one."
